Ciro bike tour
Self-guided “Ćiro bike route” is a cycling route intertwined with the history of this region. Its name, “Ćiro”, comes from the name of the legendary steam railway locomotive that used to operate between 1903. and 1976. The route has been partly restored and opened in 2017. and you will be following the “Ćiro” train path/cycling route all the way from the Dubrovnik area to Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Some parts of the path are still being used as a railroad path even today (between Čapljina and Mostar), and here you will use an alternative asphalt road. The cycling path, being either gravel or paved road, passes through the valley of Popovo polje, follows the rivers Trebišnjica and Neretva, and visits villages around it, as well as the historical cities of Dubrovnik, Počitelj and Mostar. As you ride, you are exposed to the history and the way of life of the area of both neighboring countries, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the link between the two civilizations and cultures, was the popular “Ćiro” train which path you are riding on. On the route, you will see some magnificent views, try out local dishes, sleep in family-run accommodations (one of which is a former train station) and of course, enjoy cycling along the border/frontier areas of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
